A Look Inside the Punchbowl

Devils Punchbowl, Oregon

This 15-20 million-year-old sandstone of the Astoria Formation was deposited underwater. The sandstone is easily eroded by the waves. Over time the tide has eroded away the rock and created the holes in the punchbowl.  The waves shaped the bowl out of sandstone and now they are destroying it.
