Coastal Beach Erosion

What can erosion do to rock?

Sandstone is just what it sounds like - stone that is made of sand. This sandstone is between 15 and 20 million years old. Both photos show what erosion can do to sandstone as it has been fractured and eaten away by water and wind.  The narrow photo shows the sandstone being reduced to boulders, cobbles, pebbles, and sand. The square photo shows how erosion has carved the stone in a different way. These photos were taken at Devil's Punchbowl and Beverly Beach on the Oregon Central Coast.
