The Maggie Osgood Library in Lowell, OR opened its doors to the public on February 25, 2023. Maggie Osgood, 1933-2019, was a pillar of Lowell and the surrounding unincorporated areas for decades. Among her many services was the creation of an all-volunteer library where she coordinated the summer reading program. Unfortunately, that library building was severely damaged by the 2019 winter storm. In 2022, the city renovated an existing building in town to house city hall and a professionally managed library. Although the library is tiny by nearly every measure, it provides all the services typical to a modern public library including circulating books, eBooks, audio books, DVDs, games and jigsaw puzzles.

The library maintains a digital archive housed by Northwest Digital Heritage. The archive includes photographs, school yearbooks, and other material recording the history of Lowell and the surrounding unincorporated towns. The public launch of the repository will take place in June 2026.

CULTURE CONNECTS PROGRAM GOALS

The proposed project celebrates our ongoing work to capture and share the history of Lowell and the surrounding communities. In June 2026 we will formally launch MOLDR the Maggie Osgood Library Digital Repository with a community supper at our grange hall. The goal of the event is to engage the local community in the ongoing work of the library to celebrate local history.
